Information About Hannah - Durham tutor - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Hannah:
I am a 3rd year Classics student at Durham averaging a 2:1. I have always had a love for Classics ever since I started learning it at school. I have a particular interest in Greek drama and its influence on later art forms and I plan to write my dissertation on this.
In my spare time I am involved in drama at university and I have also been a member of my college rowing team for the past two years, mainly coxing but also occasionally rowing.
I have tutored classics to family and friends and also a couple of clients around my home town. In my final year of school I volunteered in a primary school and taught Latin to Year 6's (who had never studied Latin before) which gave me a valuable insight into teaching completed inexperienced student and the right techniques to use.
In my role as a coxswain both in my six form and at university I have had invaluable experience in encouraging and motivating my crews. All these skills are useful for teaching.
The important base level when learning Classics up till A level is vocabulary. Once you have that skill mastered then everything begins to fall into place. My tutoring therefore takes the form of small frequent tests in order to ensure that a tutee masters this skill. Alongside this I will also highlight the areas where a tutee struggles with grammar and help them with that. There are many patterns which can help tutee learn the grammar rules and I find these are the most useful as they stick in the mind.
