Information About Hamish - Edinburgh tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Hamish:
I'm a fifth year student at the University of Edinburgh, studying Mechanical Engineering with Renewable Engineering. I'm on track for a First and was awarded the Class Medal in fourth year. However, I'm also an adept essay writer, having won many competitions in this field. I'm constantly proofing essays of my peers, from Anthropology to Economics.
I have been tutoring friends and family in Maths since I was a teenager. I have tutored Mechanical Engineering before and as stated previously, proof at least an essay a week for my peers at University. I have also over 50 hrs of tennis coaching experience, which has given me a fresh outlook of how to implant knowledge in my students.
The core of my teaching method is based on the Implant, Reinforce and Maintain (IRM) technique taught to many teachers today.
Implant - My experience has taught me that guiding students to answers through careful questioning and assessment of current knowledge is the best way to initially implant knowledge.
Reinforce - From there I will reinforce the knowledge with further questioning, challenges and work.
Maintain - I will then work with the student to maintain the information through long-term revisitation and utilisation of concepts.
However, I also recognise that each tutee has their own individual learning methods and requirements and therefore, I adapt accordingly. For further queries surrounding my teaching technique, don't hesitate to contact me.
