I graduated from UCL with a degree in Biology in 1995 and completed my PGCE from the Institute of Education in 1996.
I have been busily home educating my four children for the last 12 years. Two of my children are at school now. My eldest was home educated until she was 16, she studied for her A levels at Colchester County High School and is now reading Pharmacy at Manchester University. My son went to school in year 7 at Colchester Royal Grammar School, where he is in year 13. My youngest daughter is now at CCHS in year 8.
I enjoy being around young people and feel I can encourage them to do well. It makes me happy to see young people flourish and grow in confidence.
I have been teaching and tutoring small groups of children for 8 years and have had great success with Biology, Chemistry and Physics IGCSE. I have developed my own course materials and have delivered these to groups of home educated students. My results have been 100% pass rates, Student feedback has shown that I am good at preparing students for exams and the ability to answer questions for the GCSE in a most effective way.
I have been tutoring children for the 11+ for the past seven years and have had success here too. My students find these lessons stimulating and fun. I try not to burn out students and initially perform an assessment to gauge whether they are capable of reaching the levels the entrance exams require.
I have 15+ years of teaching experience with the Edexcel and Cambridge IGCSEs. I have taught international students and
I try to make preparing for the 11+ as fun as possible. I encourage students to read widely, although I recommend parents read to their child as much as they are able. This makes the book more interesting and parents can teach children meanings of new words in context. The use of puzzles, word searches, websites and audio book excerpts vary the lessons and make them feel less like work. I have a host of resources available and can prepare an individualised scheme of work set at the right level for your child. I will set weekly homework, but not so much that your poor child will be put off! I will try to instil confidence and determination to succeed
GCSE Science lessons can be delivered school lesson style. I have my developed my own curriculum resources with notes, youtube videos, games and puzzles. However at GCSE level I find tutee led lessons more value for (tutee's) money. If you have a problem understanding an aspect of your GCSE course I will be happy to help, this is the most effective way to use a tutor. I am good at developing exam technique and can set and mark exam questions to this end.
