I am an Oxford graduate in politics, philosophy and economics. I am now semi-retired from a thirty year career as a chartered accountant. I am studying mathematics at the Open University, having obtained their Diploma in Mathematics after completing the equivalent of the first year of a mathematics degree course at a conventional university. Whilst continuing to study myself I am also engaged in part time tutoring and have been able to help students to achieve satisfactory results in their examinations. I am able to offer a mixture of enthusiasm, a sympathetic personality, maturity and good technical knowledge.
I have undertaken private tutoring for GCSE and A level mathematics for approximately five years now. My students have achieved good results.
Private tutoring is usually auxiliary to the tuition given by schools. Therefore I look to discover in which areas the tutee is finding particular difficulty and focus on these. I believe that mathematics is a subject which is learnt by doing, so my approach is to give the tutees problems and give them support in working through these.
