Giles

A subject specialist in Religious Studies and Philosophy. Please note I have very limited availability but am able to take on one new student from Autumn 2025.

Tutoring Experience

I have 10 years’ full time classroom experience at highly selective independent schools such as Haberdashers’ Girls School and Forest School.

I have been an Examiner for AQA A-level Philosophy since 2022. I have also examined for AQA GCSE Religious Studies.

I have tutored students for entrance exams to St Paul’s, Haberdashers and Westminster Schools.

I have coached students to gain places at Oxford, Cambridge and Ivy League Universities, in PPE, Philosophy, Theology and related subjects.

I regularly see my tutees improve by 3 to 4 grades. It is not uncommon to see my students move from a 3 at Year 10 to a 9 in their final GCSE. In 2025, 76% of my GCSE students acheived a 9.

I have a degree in Philosophy from King’s College London and a PGCE in Religious Education from the same university. I am fully versed in the specifications of exam boards such as Eduqas, Edexcel and OCR in Religious Studies A Level; AQA Philosophy A level; and Edexcel and AQA in Religious Studies GCSE.

Tutoring Approach

I combine a deep knowledge of the British exam system with a sensitivity to the needs of students and a heartfelt commitment to the value of religious and philosophical education.

I believe that education is a process of drawing out and developing students’ inner beliefs and intuitions, and helping them to locate their own ideas in the rich tapestry of world religions and philosophical traditions.

I emphasise the importance of questioning and challenging students to enable them to find their own answers to the biggest questions of life – as well as to enable them to do their very best in the exam room. In the words of Martin Heidegger, “questioning is the piety of thought”.
