I am 22, studying Medicine at Imperial College on the accelerated 4 year course having previously graduated with a 1st from the Biochemistry BSc (Hons) course at the same institution. While studying Biochemistry I was awarded the Santander Award for highest results out of the UK based students. At school I achieved the highest or joint-highest grades of my year at GCSE and A-Level and received various school academic prizes.
Beyond academia I have an interest in a range of outdoor pursuits such as trekking (35 mile Ten Tors expedition, Gold DOE), kayaking (125 mile DW Race), cycling (100 mile race last summer). Other interests include squash, running, football, tennis, list-writing.
I am admittedly relatively new to professional tutoring but hear me out! I have over two years experience in teaching sport as an assistant coach on a voluntary basis and have also taken teaching roles for new entrants to our school's CCF (Combined Cadet Force). Additionally, having siblings who have recently completed their A-Levels and GCSE's has not only given me significant academic teaching experience but also the confidence that I can make a real difference to people's grades.
Tutoring is something that I am keen to pursue increasingly in the future and therefore I look forward to the opportunity to prove myself in assisting Biology A-Level students whether struggling with the subject or looking to target the top grades.
Regarding the specific content of sessions I have my own ideas about what approaches are often effective but I believe that any (and every!) preference of the student must first be taken into account. However from a wider perspective I am of the view that first and foremost the material should be covered in an exam-effective manner; this is not to say that I do not see the value of looking beyond the syllabus but I believe that a student has to first have secure knowledge that they will do well in the exam before they can have the confidence and enthusiasm to engage with the subject at a deeper level.
