This is how 3 referees rated Georgia:
Hi there! I am a bubbly and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about maths. From a young age, mathematics has always fascinated me. This keen interest that I had in maths motivated me to do well in this subject and as a result, I attained A* in GCSE maths, A* in A-level maths and 77% overall in A-level further maths. Apart from studying hard to achieve these results, I also believed I did well because of the influential maths teachers I had. I believe that every student has the ability to do well in maths; they just need someone who is patient, energetic, compassionate and friendly.
One of the main barriers that I feel could prevent a student from reaching their full potential is self-confidence. Sadly, many people out there feel that they don't have the “intelligence” do well in maths. This negative mentality then has a detrimental effect on their progress. As well as being there to help the student with maths, I believe in helping them develop their confidence in learning this subject. This is because I genuinely care about my student’s performance and I know, with lots of encouragement, they can thrive.
For me, learning maths should be a positive and engaging experience, and not seem like a tedious chore. As the American mathematician William Paul Thurston said, "Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations or algorithms, it is about understanding."
During my time at City University London where I studied a Bachelors with Honours in mathematics and finance, I tutored GSCE level maths at a nearby secondary school, City of London Academy Islington. One particular child, who I was teaching GSCE foundation maths with a predicted grade of D, ended up achieving a grade C. As you can imagine, they were very pleased to pass and this also meant they were able to enrol at the college of their choice.
Now that I have graduated from university, I want to venture into full time tutoring as this is something I really enjoy. I am currently working as a part time maths and english tutor in a tuition centre in Sidcup. I work with many bright and eager pupils, ranging from primary school to secondary school.
My tutoring style is very interactive. Rather than just spending a whole session talking to the student, I believe in questioning them and getting them to share their ideas with me. I will use various resources such as mini whiteboards, mini quizzes, games, questions from past papers, as well as working from textbooks that I will provide.
I will also tailor my tutoring for each individual. For example, for children who are more visual, I will use more of the visual aids. However, for children who prefer to answer lots of questions, I will focus primarily on bookwork, whilst still making it a fun experience! I will also provide techniques that I used to help me do well in the exams. Organisation is very important so I will always plan the lessons in advance to prevent any delays.
Areas I have experience with:
11+ exams(verbal reasoning ,non-verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning)
I am able to tutor different exam boards following the syllabus.
For prospective students, I provide a free consultation session, where I will meet up with the student and parents/guardian and discuss the student's needs.
Areas I cover: Orpington, Petts Wood, Chislehurst, Bromley, St Mary Cray, Bickley, Sidcup
(I am happy to travel to addresses not in these areas, depending on the distance)
