I am an enthusiastic, hardworking tutor and a top graduate with a First Class English degree from Lincoln College, Oxford. I am currently completing postgraduate studies in Law and have experience tutoring. I very much enjoy tutoring: helping a student to overcome a subject that they find challenging is both rewarding and satisfying. I tailor every lesson to the specific needs of my pupils, always with the intention of making their studies enjoyable and interesting. I work with my students to develop self-confidence and I encourage my students to foster original ways of thinking that goes beyond what can be taught in a school classroom.
I offer tutoring in:
English Language and Literature for Common Entrance, GCSE and A Level
English degree level studies
Oxbridge Entrance and Interview preparation
Common Entrance: I focus on developing my pupils understanding and engagement with the reading comprehension texts that they are faced with. I help students discover and implement strategies to help them cope when they encounter words or texts that they don't understand. I work hard to develop a strong foundation both in spelling and grammar, and I encourage students to enjoy their first real taste of studying English.
GCSE: I take a flexible approach to the GCSE syllabus, ensuring that I focus my sessions on the areas that the student is most concerned with. I develop strong writing skills, broadening students' vocabulary and ensuring a strong basis of grammar to work from. I introduce a range of different comprehension techniques and am well versed in the Cambridge GCSE syllabus.
A Level: I focus on developing sophisticated writing techniques and honing students' interpretative and analytical skills. I encourage confident and concise approaches to essay writing and can provide broad experience of the coursework element of the course. I can help students to achieve the top grades possible, and cushion the development from GCSE to A Level standard.
Oxbridge Entrance and Interview preparation: I am fresh from acheiving a high First Class degree for English at Oxford. I can offer a strong knowledge of broad range of texts and an original way of thinking that helps my students to stand out from their competitors. I focus on developing sophisticated close analysis and a good foundational knowledge of genre and criticism. Above all I encourage my students to develop confidence when speaking about texts, which enables their passion for English to shine through.
