Having frequently helped my friends and tutored other colleagues on my courses, I can understand the basic problems that many students have whilst studying law. A lot of the time, the content and substance are generally well understood, and it is merely that some constructive work needs to be done on techniques for answering problem and essay questions. Other times, some initial misunderstanding about the background principles may mean that students will struggle subsequently, whether it is understanding how to apply these principles, or even memorising cases!
I adopt a very flexible tutorial system. Whether the student prefers to ask a bunch of questions, have help during an essay or class assignment, help preparing for exams, or simply some assistance in understanding certain legal aspects, I am very happy to help. I'm also more than happy to run background and introductions. One method which I find quite helpful is to be able to use diagrams and examples to convey certain more complex legal ramifications.
One thing I learned during my studies is that sometimes there may be small questions that pop up every now and then (in between lectures and seminars). I am thus happy to give out my private email address to be contacted at for free during lessons. This way the student won't have to spend too much time researching on something that could well be a simple answer.
