Hello, my name is George and I am currently a final-year medical student at Cardiff University. I am a keen rugby player and captain one of the teams for Cardiff Medicals RFC.
I have worked with children with a range of learning disabilities ranging from minor autism to more serious conditions.
I have also spent a significant amount of time coaching rugby to younger age groups. Both of these endeavours have been across a range of ages and have equipped me with the skills and attitude to be an effective teacher.
During my studies at medical school there is a significant element of peer teaching which has provided me with opportunities to practice teaching complex topics that are either being visited for the first time or that require revision.
My approach to tutoring is to begin with a discussion of the topic to be visited in order to gauge the student's knowledge and any areas that may require further attention. From here I would then talk through the topic, with extra time given to those areas previously identified as needing more work. To finish off the session we would run through some practice questions to ensure that the taught information has been understood and retained. I would also aim to briefly revisit the previous session at the beginning of a session to refresh the information and help with long-term knowledge retention.
