I have written two books entitled 100 Best Paintings in London (over 6,000 copies sold) and 100 Best Paintings in New York. At present I am researching a new book on the Neo-Impressionists, a style and philosophy developed by Georges Seurat in the mid 1880's. After gaining my first degree in History I attended the Courtauld Institute of Art for one year of a two year MA but unfortunately was unable to complete the course for financial reasons.
I am a retired publisher who founded a publishing business in the mid nineteen-eighties specialising in books on history and travel. This business was sold in 2000 to a large publishing group and I then founded a new business in conjunction with a Massachusetts based company specialising in the a similar area of book publishing. In the fast changing world of publishing over the last two decades, a knowledge of the possibilities opened up by information technology was of great importance.
I now administer a website entitled Great Works of Western Art which features articles on individual paintings primarily found in museums in the three great western cities London, Paris and New York.
I have given Art History lectures as a visiting lecturer at a local college of further education and to local groups in recent years.
I was responsible for all aspects of IT when running my businesses including the instruction of members of staff. I am proficient in both Mac and Windows operating systems, office software, Adobe InDesign (typesetting and design) and many other peripheral applications.
I believe that my wide experience in business and the arts combine to give me a valuable insight into the needs of the student or the layman in search of further enlightenment. I know that during my own education I gained most from one-to-one tuition. Now I want to pass on some of the knowledge I have gained in the same way.
