Personal Description:

I graduated from my MA in Creative and Media Education at Bournemouth University in 2012 where my work focused on ways to improve media and film education across a range of levels. I also achieved a Distinction in my PGCE and a 2:1 in my Journalism, Film and Broadcasting BA, both of which were completed at Cardiff University.

I enjoy working with young people. They are energetic, enthusiastic and passionate and inspire me to become a better teacher, tutor and person. This enthusiasm for working with young people is the foundation for a solid and successful teacher-student relationship. I believe that being a good teacher means having a strong relationship with my students and this is something that I work hard to achieve and maintain within teaching and tutoring positions. I am a conscientious, hardworking and ambitious individual with excellent organisation and time management skills.

My love for media and film extends beyond my own teaching and I enjoy keeping up-to-date with the subjects through subscriptions to Media Magazine and Sight and Sound. I also engage in regular debates that surround the subject and regularly attend conferences that are not only syllabi specific but also deal with wider issues that affect the sector.

Having worked in various educational institutions I am well equipped in working with learners who posses a range of abilities. I am patient, kind and approachable and I always put the learner first. My meticulous approach to my teaching is a quality I try to instil in my learners and their approach to their coursework.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a former Head of Department for Media and Film Studies at an inner city school in London with over 6 years Media and Film teaching experience across a range of levels including GCSE and A Level. I have worked with students in groups and individually to prepare them for a range of syllabi including OCR and WJEC. I have planned lessons and schemes of work for GCSE and A Level Media and have also taught vocational qualifications as well.

I am experienced in the completion and assessment of all practical coursework that GCSE and A Level Media/Film subjects require and have assisted in the assessment of some English coursework.

I have over 6 years experience in preparing students for UCAS applications including writing personal statements, completing the application forms, careers/course choices and interviews. I have successfully helped students gain entry to Oxbridge and to Russell Group Universities amongst others and have helped students prepare for relevant entrance exams for various courses including Medicine.

As an experienced academic tutor I have worked with students to develop study skills that are essential for their academic progression. I have devised programmes of study where study skills are at the centre which have resulted in students being better equipped for academic life.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an advocate for personalised learning and feel that any approach adopted must have the individual tutee in mind. I approach teaching creatively and consider varied approaches to assist students in their learning. In order for students to learn and to progress they must enjoy what they are learning and how they are learning it, therefore I ensure an open approach to student learning, communicating with them to ensure the most personalised approach possible.

As exams form a significant part of most courses I believe that whilst learning must be fun and enjoyable there must always be a focus on the methods and strategies to pass the exam. I would ensure that students are well prepared for their forthcoming exams by focusing attention on writing, construction and time management.
