My name is Gemma and I have been working professionally in the theatre industry for 10+ years as an actress, workshop leader and educator.
I trained for 6 years in performing arts, specialising in Acting, Voice and Singing.
My credits include both West End and TV: Call the Midwife, Holby City, Made in Dagenham, One Man Two Guvnors, Dreamboats and Petticoats and many more.
I specialise in English and Drama: Shakespeare, classic texts and modern drama, as well as Victorian literature and poetry analysis techniques both seen and unseen texts.
For KS2 and KS3, I principally focus on building confidence with spelling, comprehension and writing skills both in terms of creative writing and non-fiction assessment evaluations.
For GCSE, we focus primarily on essay structure, exam practice and fulfilling the 5 Assessment Objectives needed for the exams.
I am familiar with all the main exam boards and have experience in AQA and Edexcel in particular.
I try to tailor each lesson to what the student needs help with the most, in order for them to get the most out of their time with me.
My goal is to make the lessons as enjoyable as they are informative, and encourage the students to become invested in the books they study, and more confident and secure in their analysis of texts.
English and Drama is about finding your voice, confidence and a passion no matter what your age, and my goal is to encourage all my students to care about these texts as much as I do.
I am a friendly, extremely empathetic tutor who understands the work that goes into studying drama and auditions and my students and I have a great relationship. I push my students hard, without breaking the trust between pupil and tutor and can identify when it's time to pull back.
