Philosophy / Critical Thinking
Hello, my name is Gary and I reside in Sunderland. I've been interested in philosophy most of my life but only decided to study the subject at a later age. This involved going to college in order to complete the Access to Higher Education course required to enrol with a university. Following this I studied Philosophy at Durham University from 2009 - 2012 and wrote a 12,000 word dissertation on Political Obligation. Upon completing my degree I decided that I would like to teach the subject so enrolled on a PTLLS course (now called an Award in Education and Training Level 3). Having completed the course I am now currently working towards becoming a fully qualified teacher.
My previous tutoring experience has mainly consisted of one on one sessions with my students. I have also proof read essays, dissertations and PhD. As well as the subjects stated in my profile I am able to offer students support who are studying on an Access to Higher Education or Award in Education and Training Level 3. As well as the particular philosophy modules listed below I am able to assist in both reading and writing philosophical essays.

Taking into account that each individual has their own learning style, my tutorial approach embraces visual, audial and kinaesthetic learning styles tailored to each individual’s requirements. Building on the student’s strengths and addressing their weaknesses the student will discover what works best for them gaining the confidence to become an independent learner and face new challenges.
After the first session which will focus upon the student’s learning needs and establishing learning outcomes the sessions will be structured to each individual with a revisable lesson plan taking into account what works best for the student as they improve their skills.
