Edinburgh Tutor

I have had various degrees of help from tutors throughout my academic life so I can understand the value that is offered to a tutee by receiving extra help in this way. I am currently studying a Ph.D in Medical Science at Aberdeen University and studied for my undergraduate degree here gaining a 2.1 in Biomedical Science (physiology). The hours spent doing work towards my doctorate is flexible and I have a car meaning my ability to fit around the schedule of others is very good. I consider myself outgoing, patient and very reliable. I am also based in an office in Leith so I am spread over north Edinburgh however I can travel anywhere. I run a Tutoring business out of the office and work with many experienced Tutors, so availability can always be catered for if my own personal schedule doesn't work with yours.

Tutoring Experience

I was Biology prefect in my final year at school which involved helping to teach classes up to fourth year (National 5). I also carried out some work experience teaching primary school children PE and as part of my Ph.D I will be demonstrating for and tutoring first and second year undergraduates at the university. I have also had vast one on one tutoring experience from 13+ maths and science to standard grade/intermediate/national physics/maths to advanced higher/A-level Biology and Chemistry. I am aware that the curriculum in school from secondary 1-4 changed to the curriculum for excellence (Cfe) system a few years ago and there have been some concerns, this is something I have been on top of since details were initially released regarding the new system and I would consider myself ahead of the game when considering the change in teaching/tutoring requirements.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring will be engaging, challenging and above all I will strive to create an environment which makes the tutee want to push him/herself proactively rather than being spoon-fed. The result will be that the tutee will enjoy learning meaning the progress and benefits will start to become apparent fast. It was through this style of teaching/ tutoring that I found my strengths in academia and ultimately successes, therefore I wish to pass this confidence in learning onto the next generation.
