I have a PhD in Computational Chemistry from UCL following afirst-class honours degree from Kings College London. I always found science, chemistry especially, fantastically interesting at school, and went on to combine this with my computer skills at university. I love fixing things and explaining things to people, especially with regards to computers and science.
I provided tutoring and mentoring to younger students whilst at university. Since finishing my degrees, I have been offering private tutoring at GCSE and A-Level..
I am calm, cool and collected. Each student has a different experience with chemistry, so as I work with them I try to identify underlying problem areas of understanding or knowledge, even study skills.
Some students are already successful but require a confidence boost to unlock their potential, while others feel fazed by what they learn in class and need time and support to absorb the details. If calculations are a problem, I will find a way to break them down and make them simple. If there is an 'information overload', I will help to make clear notes and fit the pieces together.
I always discuss with a student how they feel they are doing and what troubles they are having. After a tutoring session I will sum up, and I am always happy to discuss progress with parents.
