Personal Description:

I graduated from the University of Edinburgh last year where i spent four years studying Classics. Whilst at University I had extensive experience working with others to achieve the best result, largely through directing and producing in drama. It was thrilling to guide performers through these processes and my experience in tutoring has been the same. I am enthusiastic, open-minded and love the prospect of working through a problem.

Tutoring Experience:

My tutoring experience has been part-time since leaving the Oxford School of Drama in September 2017.

For the most part my experience has been in tutoring English Literature and Language from 11+ - GCSE standard but I am also very keen to have more experience tutoring in Latin and Greek Language as those were the subjects of my University Degree.

More generally I ran various workshops at University on the interpretation and performance of Shakespeare's texts. I have also worked individually to help performers with their work and feel that this process, which requires understanding and appreciation of an individual's unique character, is vital in a tutoring environment.

Tutoring Approach:

On the understanding that every student will need something different I try to learn as much as possible in the first meeting from them about what they hope to achieve from our sessions and what the student's experience of the subject has been up to that point.

Students often seem to doubt that eloquent/ clear communication in their writing is something that can be taught but that is entirely untrue. It is just a question of helping the student identify what they want to say. For younger students in particular I have found that so much of improving their standard in a subject comes when they recognise their own affinity for it or the personal value it may bring for them.
