History Of Art
I'm a professional artist and art teacher with over twenty years exhibiting in the USA and UK as well as a long twenty year history of teaching children through to adults in all levels in the arts and art history. I'm also an art activist and have recently been published in the BBC and local Hertfordshire newspapers as well as interviewed on BBC Radio Three and South Korean Television for my current and ongoing holocaust memorial peace project.
I'm currently working on a second degree at Central Saint Martins in London with a focus on art and science and am involved in several diverse exhibitions this year relating to my illustrations and sculptures.
I've been teaching since 1995 in both a classroom setting and on a one to one basis. I've been employed by schools in the USA as an art instructor with responsibilities to create, develop and teach a successful art curriculum to children ranging from age 8 to 18 and have also taught evening adult art classes. I've been freelance the majority of the time and have devised, created and taught my own art programmes at rented facilities in various cities in the US and UK. For the last fifteen years, I've been freelance teaching at student's homes, my own home based studio and also at local museums.
I've had experience teaching children and adults with learning difficulties and can adapt my lessons to suit the needs of my student at whatever level they may be.
I have a good deal of experience teaching secondary students and young adults who are preparing for art college and can review and advise on art portfolios and help prepare students create a stronger more developed portfolio for successful portfolio reviews.
For new students, I must review your portfolio or whatever art you've done previously so I can better understand how to develop a helpful lesson plan. For preliminary lessons, its helpful for me to observe the student and their currently techniques and abilities so I know how to guide them.
I typically work from life when teaching, which means I depend on a still life or museum setting in which we can observe the architecture and sculptures within a space and will draw with my student as I teach so my words are also helped by visual examples. I tend to reference a lot of art terminology and art history when I'm describing what I want my student to do which helps structure the lesson.
I don't provide materials but I do suggest what materials to buy and where to buy them. I can teach techniques on how to use specific materials also. I do teach all levels in the arts.
I do also specialise in teaching perspective, learning to see in both drawing and painting, relationships and composition. I teach using methods that are considered very traditional but will offer the student vital tools for their own creative artistic journeys.
