Personal Description:

I am a qualified and experienced secondary school English teacher with a passion for teaching and learning. I studied English and Philosophy at Durham University where I obtained a 2:1 BA Hons. I did my PGCE teacher training at Roehampton University in London in 2010 and have been teaching and tutoring ever since.

Tutoring Experience:

I taught at an OFSTED Outstanding secondary school in North London for 2 years after my PGCE and then worked another 2 years in a mixed comprehensive in Wandsworth where I developed further skills in pedagogy and classroom management. I have also been a private tutor in my spare time and have coached a number of students through to achieve success in their common entrance exams, GCSEs and A Levels. I am currently teaching GCSE English and A Level English Language at a local school and also have experience in teaching SEN students.

Tutoring Approach:

At KS2 and KS3 I believe learning should be fun and student-led and so I aim to ensure lessons are engaging and try to act as a facilitator to learning where ever possible. This requires that lessons are planned properly and are part of a well-thought out scheme of learning. I absolutely love teaching and being able to tutor one-to-one is a great opportunity to see students make rapid progress in their learning.
At GCSE and A Level I am able to teach students of English how to improve essay writing skills, develop skills in textual analysis and skills in creative writing.
