Hello! My name is Yi chun. I'm a bright, patient, and caring Mandarin tutor and also a language learning geek. Being born and raised up in Taiwan, I've known my passion for languages since I was a kid being fascinated by the beauty of Mandarin- my mother tongue. Following that, I did my Bachelor degree in Turkish Language and Culture, taught myself Japanese to pass the highest level of JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), and then did my master degree in Media and Communications in London (in English of course:)), and now I'm learning Italian! My diverse experiences on language learning help me to be able to quickly get into the point of the logic thinking behind a language, which I think is the key for successfully picking up a new language; additionally, it also allows me to understand the common setbacks one may encounter while learning a language.
I understand learning Mandarin can sometimes sound a bit daunting for its characters and tones but don't worry, I will walk you through all of these and you'll find learning Mandarin is actually a fun thing to do.
I have 3 years of tutoring experiences. Apart from teaching, I am also a Mandarin copywriter and translator. I am very confident with my Mandarin skills and the capability of bridging the culture difference. I am able to fit your level from basic, intermediate, to advanced.
Taken from my own language learning experiences, I don't exactly follow the traditional way of teaching. I believe you should start speaking from day one as the motivation is powered by the sense of achievement. And being able to make short conversation will make you feel more interested in exploring how much you can achieve. More than just passing on the knowledge, I like to guide students to combine what they've learnt to create sentences they haven't seen from the book. By doing so, students would develop the ability of reconstructing the grammars and vocabularies they've learnt and knowing how to expand the knowledge bit by bit.
You'd also find me sharing fun facts of Chinese culture ranging from tradition, food, music, to film along the sessions. After all, language can't stand on its own without the culture. My goal is to boost your passion in learning Mandarin and make it fun and accessible.
I prefer one to one tutoring as it's the best way to tailor the session based on students' learning pace and style. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your need.
