Personal Description:

My name is Ffinian , I'm 26 and I'd like to apply to become a tutor. I have a strong background in music and science. I am an active concert pianist as well as science undergraduate at Cambridge University. I will be entering my first year at Cambridge in October 2014 studying Natural Science (mainly Chemistry and Biology). For the past two years I have been teaching myself A level Chemistry and Biology with only the course text books for guidance. I was therefore happy to achieve and A* in Biology (with 100% marks in the second, third and forth modules) and an A in Chemistry (I just missed out on the A*). I did my own private extra - curricular research prior to taking the Cambridge interviews, and performed well subsequently. I would be very good at helping students in chemistry and biology prepare for GCSE and A level exams, particularly those who wish to obtain A* grades with a view on going to university, as one of my major focuses during my exam preparations was to focus on exam technique, in order to get the highest possible mark. I would therefore like to apply to teach Biology and Chemistry at A level and GCSE level.

Tutoring Experience:

I have extensive experience in teaching private piano students on a one to one basis. I would apply this experience to a similar scenario in science teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always had a fun approach to teaching, as I believe the best way a student can apply themselves fully is if they are enjoying what they are doing. As well as explaining problems clearly, I also feel that exam technique is vital in achieving very high grades. This is what I found out when teaching myself A level chemistry and biology, and I feel that if a student knows the material perfectly, exam technique may be the difference between an A and an A*.
