I am an enthusiastic Classics tutor who enjoys passing on knowledge and helping others to overcome difficulties and make progress with their work.

Having studied Latin for nine years and Ancient Greek for five years, I achieved the top grade of 7 in my International Baccalaureate Diploma Latin examinations and A*s in both Latin and Ancient Greek at GCSE level at Sevenoaks School, in Kent, where I was an Academic Scholar.

I believe that my fresh experience of being taught by top-level teachers prepares me well for passing on my knowledge to students. I have a CRB certificate and two references available for viewing, plus my own transport.

Tutoring Experience

I have spent two years, as a volunteer, teaching Latin and English one afternoon per week at local primary schools in Sevenoaks. This allowed me to perfect my teaching methods and to experiment with improvising my own exercises where I found textbooks to be lacking. The feedback from the teachers at the schools was extremely positive and I enjoyed gaining valuable classroom experience.

I am familiar with the following courses and qualifications: the 'So you really want to learn Latin?' series of books, the Cambridge Latin Course books, Common Entrance exams, 13+ Scholarship Entrance Latin exam preparation and OCR GCSE Latin Language and Literature exams.#/k#

Tutoring Approach

I am available to assist with Latin homework and preparation for Common Entrance, scholarship and GCSE Latin exams.

I place great emphasis on ensuring that the knowledge of basic grammar is watertight - having seen students who progress to higher levels with their Latin being undermined by a lack of thorough knowledge of even the simplest grammar.

Three things are important: identifying and addressing a student's areas of weakness; developing their confidence in dealing with exam questions and more complicated structures and lastly ensuring that the student is familiar and confident with the question types and format of their exam papers.
