Personal Description:

I am a reliable, experienced primary school teacher, graded as first class BA honours in primary education with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) degree in Birmingham City University.

As a fully trained, enthusiastic and creative primary school teacher, my aim is to develop a love of learning through highly tailored sessions, meeting the needs to my students and supporting them to change their perception and gain confidence to achieve their goals.
Recently myself and another teacher, Simon, have paired up to tutor at a centre in Camborne. As Camelot Tutors, we run fun, practical activities in a small group of no more than 6 children to bounce ideas from and gain confidence in English and maths. Sessions are £15 per hour and are run on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and then from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. We also run maths and English on a Wednesday morning between 10am and 12pm.

Tutoring Experience:

Since qualifying in 2009 from Birmingham City University with first class BA Honours, I have been working as a primary school teacher, ensuring to plan, deliver and assess progression of differentiated lessons to meet the specific needs and abilities of students; including those with special educational needs with English as an additional language and those that are gifted and talented in different areas of the national curriculum. Initially I worked in a Birmingham school for 3 years before returning to Cornwall where I continued my profession as a supply teacher and tutor. I have particular experience and training in engaging and supporting children with challenging behaviours and with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism.

For the past three years, I have been tutoring children within a wide range of years, ability and learning styles in literacy and maths and have helped them meet expected and even exceeding above the expected level of progress. Through a fun, engaging and personalised approach, ensuring to create memorable lessons, the children have gained confidence in the subjects as well as greater understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

“Without an individualised approach, it may be difficult for certain children to make the progress needed to achieve their full potential.” (Department for Education, 2012)
I believe that all children can flourish when teaching is personalised and tailored to them. If a student feels in control of their own learning, they are more likely to feel confident in achieving their goals and succeeding. The sessions are set at the individuals own pace and can engage and support a student in ways a classroom environment cannot, providing more opportunities for talk, practice and clarification.
