I am an experienced tutor with a First Class Degree in English Literature from the University of Warwick.
I started tutoring to support myself whilst studying, and found that I absolutely love it. I'll never forget the nerves or the excitement of my first tutee's GCSE results day... which turned to happiness and satisfaction as he'd achieved what he'd wanted. I suspect that I was more pleased that he was!
After university I studied at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I have a great deal of experience leading youth groups, writing plays for young people and providing academic support. I am a strong communicator and session leader.
I am passionate about music, theatre, film, art, politics, philosophy, technology, design and literature.
I have tutored since 2010, on an ad hoc basis and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. Added to this, I have extensive experience volunteering at Primary Level, and leading workshops and drama sessions as Secondary Level. I co-ran the Youth Theatre at the Warwick Arts Centre from 2013-2014. I have experience of working with all age groups; from Rhyme Time sessions with Under 5s to workshops of University students.
I also worked in the Examinations Office at Northampton College for a time, which was an eye-opening insight into the mechanics, process and structure of examinations and exam boards.
Every student is different, with different needs and priorities. Some people are looking for a bit of extra polish, while others want a more comprehensive rethink of their academic style - both are equally deserving of the best support. Whatever you need to progress, I will be able to help.
I start by helping students identify their own goals and then I help work out how these can be achieved. I encourage students to be realistic in their aims, whilst pushing themselves further than they think they can go. I find that this pragmatic approach yields real and identifiable progress for students of all abilities and helps in giving students the confidence to succeed.
I am able to help with: essay technique and writing style; analytical and comprehension skills; critical thinking; exam technique; revision planning and skills; wider reading.
I aim to help every student achieve what they want to achieve, be that a small or large improvement in their chosen subject. I also aim to encourage each student to read around the subject, becoming passionate about what they’re studying and not limiting their interests to the exams they sit. It is this that can really make a difference, long-term.
