This is how 2 referees rated Estella:
Teaching English is my great passion and I aspire to see every child achieve in this most vital subject of the Curriculum. I have taught at KS 3 level for my entire career and have vast experience of KS 2 and 4. I would welcome the opportunity to build on previous academic success in order to achieve the best possible outcomes and life chances for your child. I would like to further prove that I am an “outstanding teacher” (OFSTED and ISI Inspectors) in the role of English tutor to your child.
I have been an English teacher for a very long time! I led a large English Faculty with a proven track record of success in both GCSE English and Literature for 11 years. After that I was Head of English in a middle school, teaching pupils from Yr 5-8. I am still a GCSE examiner. I would bring my long and highly valuable experience as an OCR Team Leader for GCSE English Literature to help your child achieve the best possible results. Every year, I led a panel of eight or more examiners and was responsible for the accurate assessment of at least two thousand candidates. This experience (of over 16 years) has given me great insight in to preparation for external examinations and fresh ideas to achieve great success for pupils. I have also examined IGCSE English Literature for the Cambridge Assessment group. Linking effective Teaching and Learning Strategies with examination criteria is a vital tool in raising attainment for pupils.
I am fully aware of the importance of English in terms of pupils working towards 11plus,KS 2 SATS and GCSE examinations. Hence I am committed to the thorough preparation of lessons by the careful scrutiny of examination criteria; using past examination questions and writing my own; reviewing examiners’ reports; using sample answers of a high standard to inform pupils of expectations and perhaps most importantly, collaboration with parents. I am well accustomed to assessing work using exam board criteria and setting targets to ensure pupils progress effectively. At the heart of my teaching style is sharing targets with pupils; involving pupils in their own learning (self assessment is a key learning tool) and providing effective oral and written feedback to pupils.
These days, more pressure and more falls upon parents to help their children achieve the best possible results in this most vital of core subjects. I understand this and as such, I am willing to work alongside school curriculum demands or devise a bespoke scheme of work for your child. I have access to a wide range of English resources but I am confident to source new materials or indeed, create my own if nothing suitable exists.
Please contact me today so that your child can become more confident, knowledgeable and successful in English.
