I am a student at the University of Cambridge studying Biological Natural Sciences, which is a combination of Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I achieved a First in my first year of University. I worked as a full-time teaching assistant at a primary school in London during my gap year, and would love to get involved with teaching again via tutoring during my university holidays. As a hard-working student throughout my education, I achieved 11 A*s at GCSE and 4 A*s at A-level. I believe that this will help me to provide a high-quality tutoring experience!
During my gap year I was a full time teaching assistant for a Year 5 class at a primary school in London. I assisted the students during all their lessons, including Science, English, Humanities and Maths. I also tutored a Year 7 student in science in preparation for their summer exams. During my last year of school I also volunteered at a local primary school, supporting a Year 4 class in their Maths lessons.
I like to split my tutoring sessions into logical parts. Firstly, a verbal discussion. Here, I explain key concepts to the student before asking them to explain some concepts to me themselves. Then I work through a few questions with them as a team. I then think it is important for them to answer some questions independently, before discussing with them what they have done well, as well as where they may have gone wrong. Throughout I think it is really important maintain a relaxed and non-judgmental atmosphere so that they feel unafraid to ask me to explain anything that they don't understand.
