I am an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher/tutor who is skilled in developing the skills of learners in addition to improving their subject knoweldge.
I have worked within the Further Education sector for eight years as a teacher, personal tutor and manager. I have managed the delivery of A Levels in Law and Critical Thinking, ILEX Legal Executives, Public Services and BTEC Business (Law Units) and have worked with learners from wide ranging backgrounds and with a range of different abilities.
My approach to tutoring is to focus on the needs of the individual learner. The process would start with a discussion to determine what the learner wants to achieve from the tutoring process, what areas they are most confident in and what areas they feel they need the most help in. I then find out what approaches the learner has already treid (either with their teacher, a previous tutor or on their own) and why they feel that those approaches have not been working for them. This would enable me to identify new strategies for the learner and I would explain these to the learner. We would then work together to draw up targets and milestones for the tutoring process which would be revisited throughout the process, enabling the learner to easily see what they are achieving.
