French and Latin Tuition in Bath

I studied French and Latin at the University of Cambridge. I have recently completed doctoral research in the French department of University College London and was awarded my PhD in December 2016. My research interests are in cultures of travel in the early modern period and the Anglo-French relations as documented in travel accounts.

I am also a keen amateur choral singer, having been a member of Christ's College and Jesus College Chapel Choirs in Cambridge as an undergraduate. I still sing in adhoc groups and especially like singing Renaissance music in small consort ensembles.
I have an increasing interest in music outreach and have recently become a trustee of the UK-registered charity The Muze Trust. The Trust supports music education and music outreach workshops for both urban and rural communities in Zambia.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience of secondary-school teaching (I have taught French & Latin in a leading private school) and higher education teaching (I have taught a final-year paper in the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge and have also taught on French courses at University College London). I have tutored A-Level students in French and Latin and have helped with essay and dissertation work and university entrance interviews. I also have experience of working with educational trusts in the devising of and running of French courses which aim to push the brightest sixth formers.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach focuses on building confidence in tutees to acquire and deploy knowledge in a given subject, as well as to know how to resolve an aspect of a subject which is currently proving to be challenging. In other words, I am not interested in providing 'answers' but helping tutees develop the means to find out the answers for themselves in independent study. I also have a growing interest in teaching and exposing students to material outside of the secondary education syllabi.
