Personal Description:

I am a working actor who recently graduated from Drama Studio London, where the training included acting technique, movement, dance, voice, speech, physical theatre and improvisation. I am passionate about drama and literature - having studied in detail many plays (including those of Shakespeare) and having gained full marks in the majority of my A Level English Literature exams and coursework. I can happily tutor all levels of English Language and Literature, as well as providing general assistance with writing, such as essay structure, grammar, spelling and punctuation. This also makes me an ideal tutor for students with English as a second language.

I also provide both academic and extra-curricular drama tuition. I know a great deal about theatre and have a particular passion for Shakespeare and Chekhov. As a young actor, having recently graduated from drama school, I am in a excellent position to offer advice to those hoping to gain a place on an acting course. I have had a lot of practice at choosing monologues and audition pieces, not only for myself but for my friends, where I have also gained experience in directing. My acting work has seen me in productions at the Orange Tree and Barons Court Theatre. I have also recently completed two short films, a TV Pilot and commercial. I am currently co-writing a play set during World War One.

Before training at Drama School, I studied History at University College London, achieving a high 2:1. My degree covered a broad spectrum of historical studies, from Antiquity to the present day. This has provided me with excellent analytical skills, as well as a strong understanding of how to construct high-standard essay based answers. Alongside English, I am therefore also able to tutor all levels of History and all areas of the subject. My final dissertation, for example, was on the social and cultural history of both the USA and Britain from 1850 onwards. Previous topics for tuition have included Nazi Germany, the Cold War, Irish Studies, Italy under Mussolini and many more.

I am based in West London.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been working as a tutor since graduating in 2013. I have had a number of pupils, many of which have just won places at University or are looking forward to doing their A Levels. As well as GCSE and A Level tuition, I also have experience in SATS and 11/13+ preparation, teaching English as a second language and general assistance at all levels (ranging from primary school to higher education). I have also helped students at university level, assisting with essay writing and job/internship applications.

I also work in a children’s nursery where the ages range from seven months to after school care. So I am experienced with younger children, leading circle and story time, as well as helping with homework.

Tutoring Approach:

Central to my approach is the idea that every pupil is different. My job is to create a bespoke approach depending on the individual pupils needs and to instil enthusiasm. Having attended my local comprehensive I am aware of how difficult it can be for those with the most potential to shine - often all that is needed is someone to demonstrate what it is about the subject that makes it so interesting to study. I have also benefited from the tutorial method used at UCL, where a ‘one on one’ focus really allows for pupils to think for themselves and develop their own passions and interests.

For drama tuition I take a more practical approach. I provide simple warm-ups for both the body and voice, which can then be practiced independently. I will then work on audition pieces or any script wanting to be looked at, through various exercises which will aim to allow for new discoveries and experiences. Some of which will hopefully startle and amaze both myself and the pupil.
