I have been a teacher for over eight years and have loved teaching science, up to A-level chemistry, for all of those. I have strong relationships with pupils and like to think I can get the best out of a range of personality types. I have been a Head of Chemistry at a local Leamington School for five years and have developed resources for a team of people to teach from, with positive results. I have experience with all levels of learners and have a range of resources for a range of abilities and am happy to adapt my teaching style to the one that works best for the individual. I have been awarded a consistently outstanding teaching profile across all year groups, and as part of my role assist in the development of teaching practices from good to outstanding. I have also worked for OCR marking summer examinations for four years, so have been trained by an exam board.
I believe in prioritising the areas of the GCSE and A-level courses that I know students struggle with to help maximise the time we have together. I suggest that students compile a list of topics they find hard and would like to review before the session and then spend each session looking at first teaching the harder aspects of the content, talking through the misconceptions, then looking at application questions and finally testing them using past paper questions before the end of the session to review progress. I provide a range of resources and can leave them work to do inbetween sessions. I am also happy to help with the compilation of revision timetables and look at revision strategies if this is something needed.
