This is how 3 referees rated Ellie:
I have a first class Bachelors degree in English Literature, a Masters with Distinction in Staging Shakespeare, and a PhD in Theatre Studies. I am a lecturer at the University of Warwick and a theatre director working in the South West and London. For my PhD I was awarded a scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and I won the Edwin Rudd Scholarship for academic and theatrical achievement during my Masters degree. I also am a published writer and am currently working on my first full-length novel.
I am a friendly, approachable tutor with a professional and organised manner: I believe that learning should be fun and interesting and that English and Drama are fantastic subjects!
As well as enjoying the challenge of academia, I also work as a theatre practitioner. I have mentored actors in performing challenging Shakespearean, classical, and modern roles with great success and thoroughly enjoy passing on everything I have learned as a director, producer, and teacher. I am currently a resident artist at the Watershed Pervasive Media Studio in Bristol working on a multi-sensory immersive theatre project.
I am passionate about helping students to achieve their full academic potential while increasing their enjoyment of Drama and/or English.
My current post as a tutor at the University of Warwick (since 2014) involves designing and running modules/units for undergraduate drama students, as well as running and marking assessments (both practical and theoretical/written). I have a qualification in teaching at university level. I also have 10 years experience working as a tutor and mentor, both privately and in institutions: at university level, secondary, middle, and primary. I've run drama workshops for various organisations including the National Autistic Society, Stratford Theatre Royal youth drama group, and various universities including Warwick and Exeter. I have been a private tutor in English for many years, both language and literature, for all ages.
In 2015 I worked as a tutor for EF (EducationFirst), a world-leader in international education, and gained my TEFL qualification, giving me experience with teaching English as a foreign language.
In 2013 I worked as a tutor for **Contact Detail Removed**: a tuition centre which teaches English and Maths to 5-14 year olds, and as a cover Nursery Assistant with children aged 0-4. Through these posts, as well as my experience as a Classroom Assistant in a lower school (with Reception to year 4), I have gained familiarity with early years education including language development as well as the oxford reading tree, phonics, and methods of teaching spelling and handwriting.
I am experienced with secondary level education and while studying for my Masters at Exeter (2010-2012) I privately tutored GCSE students in English Literature, English Language and exam technique, as well as giving Drama workshops in schools for a variety of age groups. While at Bristol University (2007-2010) I was employed as a Student Mentor for Widening Participation: a scheme which provided advice and support to GCSE students as they undertook their exams and transitioned from secondary education into further education at college or sixth form.
My range of experience has given me an excellent insight into different teaching methods and an all-round knowledge of the national curriculum.
I am patient, friendly, enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoy teaching. I welcome tutees with a variety of academic requirements, be they very specific or general, and I am always happy to discuss progress in between sessions and/or provide feedback to parents if requested.
