Personal Description:

Fully qualified and experienced secondary school English teacher and private tutor, offering practical, accessible assistance for students of all ages and abilities. I am a Literature graduate and make every effort to encourage genuine appreciation and deep understanding of a range of texts with my students. I teach, and am an examiner for a major exam board. English and English Literature have always been my passion and I enjoy helping students of all ages to find their own talent for English from Key Stage 2-4. Tutoring is a wonderful opportunity to focus on the individual needs of the student, in a way that is impossible in a classroom environment.
I am available to support students preparing for public and independent school exams as well as those who are lacking confidence and need to boost their language and literacy skills.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught English in secondary schools since 2009 and have experience teaching students of all ability levels, including those with special educational needs, and English as an additional language. I have been a private tutor for many of those years, teaching a small number of students from state and independent schools who were working towards GCSE, IGCSE and various Entrance Exams, in addition to younger students who wanted to boost their skills and prepare for a new school.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student is different and requires an individual approach, always with warmth, patience and professionalism. I prepare lessons specifically to meet the needs of each child, creating learning resources to stimulate thoughtful and imaginative responses. Building on successes, addressing areas of weakness and using the latest lesson to inform the planning of the next is an approach I have found to be very effective in raising achievement and student confidence.
