Native born Russian, I was born in Moscow and have been living in the UK since 2000
Initially I trained as a primary school teacher in Moscow, but in 1995 I started giving tuition to ex-pats working in Moscow.
I was originally requested to help as the traditionally trained language teachers tended to be too highly focused on grammar and forgot to keep the lessons relevant and interesting
It is vital to maintain the interest of the student, to ensure steady progress, my experience as a primary school teacher taught me how to adapt lessons to keep the interest level high.
My initial focus would always be on conversation, as this is probably the quickest means of identifying areas of weakness. Then grammmar and the reading of student appropriate texts would be overlaid on this.
