I am a Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduate currently working as an actor/tutor and translator in London. Before drama school I completed a German degree (2:1) at Bristol University.
I have a variety of experience both in one-to-one private tuition in English, German and Drama and also group theatre workshops. I have helped a dyslexic primary school student with their homework, tutored GCSE English and Drama, given private audition preparation and lessons, whilst also regularly teaching at a performing arts school in Muswell Hill.
For German - I believe that the best way to learn a language is to use it as much as possible. This will increase your confidence and consolidate grammar and vocabulary. With that in mind, I like to keep learning interactive through conversation practice, writing small compositions on topics that interest you, listening to German songs, watching German film clips and turning grammar problems into games or puzzles. If you were interested in finding a German Pen Friend, I could arrange this for you and would write an email to them at the end of every session. I am also happy to look over school work that you are struggling with and can conduct practice oral tests nearer exam times. I firmly believe that the best way to thrive in GCSE/A Level exams is to go beyond the curriculum as the boards are looking for confidence and fluency in a student's work.
For English - I work to the exam criteria for GCSE and A Level. We will look at analysing text, constructing clear, persuasive arguments, essay structure and linguistic fluency. For higher tier students, I would also require them to keep a book journal reflecting on their own personal reading.
For Drama - I offer a variety of options. For academic GCSE and A Level drama, we will look at essay structure, technical theatrical terms and personal response to the performance. For group workshops and lessons, I like to structure the time around the abilities of the participants, focussing on improvisation, text analysis, and voice work to improve confidence and ability. We would then jump into devising our own piece of work on a play-text. For audition preparation, we will focus on the material provided, ensuring that the student is confident and well equipped to succeed in the meeting.
