Personal Description:

I'm a student at Oxford University, studying Medicine. The tutorial system the University uses have given me excellent skills in one-on-one tutoring, and my medical background means that I am highly proficient at explaining complicated concepts in an easy-to-digest way. There are few things I enjoy more than when a student I'm teaching experiences that 'aha' moment! I'm also a professional artist, so I enjoy using diagrams and doodles to help explain concepts better to students, which makes me particularly suitable for visual or kinetic learners.

Tutoring Experience:

I started professional tutoring recently, and already have many satisfied clients. My combination of visual aids and real-world applications of concepts tends to really pique the interest of my tutees - I am often told that I have made a 'boring' topic interesting! I also have much personal experience teaching autistic children and teenagers, as well as people whose first language isn't English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that interest is the key to learning, so I often draw the concepts and topics covered together into a real-life problem to engage and interest the tutee. I prefer to help the student fully understand the topic so they can draw their own conclusions and make connections between areas, as is encouraged by my tutors at Oxford. However, when rote learning is required, I have effective methods to help in those areas too. I strongly encourage problem-solving: tutoring based on a problem or difficulty the student has encountered, working towards a solution, so that the student can see the progress they have made. However, I am also happy to work through a syllabus or list of requested areas or topics. Overall, I am an enthusiastic tutor who wants to challenge my students and stretch their minds, showing them that they can achieve success!

In addition to face-to-face tuition, I also offer Online tuition at a discounted rate. I have found this to be an engaging way of tutoring, with tutees experiencing fewer distractions and better focus. I use an online whiteboard to add a visual aid to the lessons, and as the tutee is also able to draw on the whiteboard, we can collaborate to solve problems. I use a pen tablet so that my diagrams are just as clear as they would be using pen and paper in a face-to-face tutorial, and using Skype means that I am often able to tutor at short notice or strange hours if we are both available, or even just be called for a quick clarification on a topic. I am happy to work using either style of tuition, or a combination of both.
