I have worked and volunteered with children of all ages for 15 years within various educational settings e.g. schools, colleges, nurseries, outdoor centres and youth drop-ins . I have worked both in the UK and overseas - including Saudi Arabia, Madagascar and Brazil.
As a father and a primary school teacher, who has also sought specialist tutoring support for his own daughter, I recognise the value of what can be achieved through one on one tutoring rather which can not be replicated in a 30 to 1 classroom environment
My wife and I have recently had twin boys which we are both thrilled about but means tutoring in my house is slightly problematic but am more than happy to travel to your house or a designated meeting place e.g The HIVE in Worcester is ideal
I am currently a Year 5 classroom teacher, where my maths specialism is of significant use preparing children for their SATS/entrance exams at the end of Year 6
It is my belief that children should understand mathematics rather than just be able to give the correct answer with no understanding of how they got there; enabling children to justify and reason their answers which is a skill that is becoming increasingly important with the new National Curriculum.
It is my driving goal to offer children dynamic and inclusive sessions irrespective of ability or background - focussing on the needs of each individual: both consolidating and extending knowledge while tackling areas of weakness to ensure the best possible outcome whether that be success in 11+/SATS or increased confidence when answering maths questions - I specifically am able to identify crucial gaps in your child's knowledge which may be preventing them to progress onto more advanced mathematics essential for aforementioned exams and their future options.
Another aspect I look to develop in your child's resilience and independence in solving maths problems which is often the key to success when faced with new/demanding tasks that they may be unfamiliar with.
I recognise the importance of being able to adapt and alter sessions to best meet their emerging needs to maintain a flexible approach depending on ongoing progress and attainment
