Ex College Lecturer and consultant engineer. I was originally a chemist but later trained to be a chemical engineer. I have a degrees in chemistry, engineering and an MSc in engineering plus I have a PGCE. I also have an enhanced CRB certificate.
I spent 4 years as a lecturer in engineering at Grimsby College. I have also taught maths and science in secondary schools and have been a personal tutor for over 5 years now. All my students achieved their desired grades last year. I work part time as a supply lecturer as well as carrying out personal tuition.
Much of my lecturing time was spent in one to one tutorials which I found to be far more effective than class room teaching. I have taught maths and science up to level 4 (HND/HNC level).
I always ask the student what it is they wish to achieve before I begin my tutorial sessions. This may be particular exam grades in order to enter university or could be to gain more understanding of the subject. If the student wishes particular grades in a particular exams I am a great believer in practicing examination questions. I also analyse old papers to try and predict which questions are likely to come up. I find this relatively easy as examiners are notoriously unimaginative. This enables me to be able to direct students to the most effective ways to revise. I like to complete old exam papers to see what quirks particular exam boards with marking.
