This is how 2 referees rated Doran:
I specialise in high quality tutoring for chemistry, based on 8 years' experience mentoring students as a professional scientist. I studied and worked at two of the world's top 10 universities, completing my PhD under the supervision of a Nobel prize winner. I teach my clients study skills that allow them to reach their academic potential and get the grades needed for the course, job or career of their choice.
I mentored undergraduate and postgraduate students during my PhD and academic positions, working one-on-one to help to teach them to grasp scientific concepts and to guide their learning. This involved helping them to prepare coursework, manage their time effectively and focus on doing what was most important for their studies.
For the past year I have been living in France in a mindfulness practice community, where I volunteered on a number of projects including an initiative to bring mindfulness into schools, and also tutored English individually and to a group. I am well practiced at a number of mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques which can help to bring more calm and concentration (especially around exam times!).
I also spent a year volunteering for an afternoon weekly at a primary school, helping pupils to improve their English.
I enjoy developing a warm, encouraging one-on-one relationship with the tutee to find a teaching approach that best meets their needs and way of learning. I aim to inspire the tutee to gain confidence in their own capacity and cultivate a spirit of curiosity towards their subject.
