I was educated at Edinburgh University and subsequently worked in the nuclear power industry for over 30 years. I moved to Stirling in 2012. I am a physics, maths, chemistry enthusiast, and fascinated by all things technical. I offer tuition in physics, maths and chemistry; all subjects at SQA N5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

Tutoring Experience

I have undertaken various teaching tasks during my time as a student, employee and retiree, covering college courses and private tuition. I have been a private tutor since 2012, with an average of 10 pupils per school year. I am a registered Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) ambassador and have worked recently in primary and secondary schools. I have a Disclosure Certificate from Disclosure Scotland.

Tutoring Approach

In my subjects I concentrate on understanding of first principles, rather than memorising of facts. I encourage my tutees to work with me and write everything down. I question my tutees constantly to test their basic understanding of the fundamentals of the subjects. I believe working on past papers is very important, and the best test of a tutees understanding. Practice, more practice, and yet more practice !
