Personal Description:

It's often a cliché to say "I've always wanted to be…", but for as long as I can remember I've been fascinated by mathematics. Whether you hated maths at school or consider it more art than science, mathematics has shaped the world in more ways than most can imagine, and it is this ability of applying highly abstract theorems and techniques to real situations that I love. My strengths are in applied mathematics, and in addition to the satisfaction of tackling physical problems, I immensely enjoy the challenges and ingenuity of thought found in modelling the complex world we live in.

Tutoring Experience:

During my undergraduate degree at Magdalen College Oxford, I had the privilege to participate in tutorial based teaching, giving me an insight into typical tutorial challenges. This first-hand experience has greatly help me develop my own tutoring style, which has been invaluable in my current roles as a University of Warwick undergraduate Physics supervisor, and a Mathematics teaching assistant. Additionally, I have gained a wealth of private tutoring experience, having been a member of First Tutors and Blue Tutors for the past 4 years.

Tutoring Approach:

In my opinion, in order to get the most out of tutorials students will need to pro-actively seek out information, and be unafraid to actively engage in discussion with your tutor. Importantly, the style of feedback and interaction which student typically receive during one-to-one lessons, will be dramatically different that that receive from traditional schooling. A lot of feedback on tutorials is done orally in the tutorial itself and you should use these opportunities to ask questions of your tutor.
