Personal Description:

I am a Latin & Greek tutor who has recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh with First Class Honours in Classics. I undertook an international exchange to McGill University in Canada in my third year, and previously studied at King’s College School, Wimbledon.

Having dedicated a large portion of my education and the last four years of my life towards learning Classical languages I would love the chance to apply the skills that I’ve acquired to help people reach the same level and to teach the next generation of Classicists!

Tutoring Experience:

My relevant qualifications include A* GCSEs in Latin and Greek, grade 7s in Higher Level Latin and Greek within the International Baccalaureate, and a first class degree in Classics from the University of Edinburgh, including first class marks in Latin and Greek Language.

I obtained the Margaret Stobie Kieth Prize in Classics from my university (2016) and the Twentyman Prize for Classics from my school (2012).

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to tutor in all areas of both Latin and Classical Greek, whether it’s helping students to learn vocabulary, to understand grammar, to translate and analyse set texts or to improve their translation skills. The specifics of what and how I teach depends on each individual student and their end goal - I aim to be flexible so that each student gets the most out of our sessions as possible. Sessions are based around either tackling particular issues that the student has raised, going through the syllabus to check that the student is comfortable with everything required of them or doing exercises that I think will be beneficial to the student's progression.

My approach is to create an informal and comfortable atmosphere that encourages my tutees to engage with the material and develop a genuine passion for Classics. Addressing issues with someone approachable and relatable helps dispel the lack of confidence created in the classroom & lets students realise that they’re capable of solving problems themselves.

Classics really is a fantastic subject to study since it contains such a wide range of disciplines, offering the study of language, literature, history and philosophy. It is a challenging but prestigious field, regarded favourably by employers and offering routes into a wide variety of professions. Whether you’re already an experienced Classicist looking to enrich your skills or are curious as to what the subject might have to offer I’d be more than happy to help. I consider myself extremely privileged to have studied Latin and Greek and it would be a delight to spread my knowledge and enthusiasm to others.
