Personal Description:

I have recently graduated from University College London with a BSc (Honours) degree in Pharmacology and am now pursuing my PhD at Imperial College in Clinical Medicine Research (Neuropharmacology of Brain Trauma). I have 4 years of tutoring experience at primary, secondary (GCSE/IGCSE), A level and International Baccalaureate level in Singapore and London. I am familiar with Edexcel, OCR and AQA exam boards. The subjects I teach are Biology, Chemistry and English at Primary/GCSE/A-level/IB level. I was also the Senior Mentor and before that, a Mentor, in the UCL Transitions Program. I mentored groups of first year students to assist them with integration into university and conducted Peer Assisted Academic Learning sessions. As a Senior Mentor, I was responsible for all mentors in my department. Having recently been a student, I can relate easily to the challenges and work load that GCSE/A-level/Degree students face and will be able to talk to students at their level. I really enjoy teaching and I am passionate about helping my students realize their full potential :)
(Although I do not have a recent CRB check, I plan to get one very soon)

Tutoring Experience:

I have 6 years of tutoring experience at primary, secondary (GCSE/IGCSE), A level and International Baccalaureate level in Singapore and London. I have worked with registered tutoring agencies, centers, charities as well and have experience in group tutoring. The subjects I teach are Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English at Primary/GCSE/A-level/IB level. Many of my students have gone on to score A`s. Further, with a degree in Pharmacology, I also provide help to degree level students for medicine, biomedical sciences, pharmacology, biochemistry and neuroscience.I have tutored students previously at degree level for the following subjects: neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology, biology, biochemistry, immunology, drug design, health and nutrition, human biologyl. As my degree was very technical and quantitative, I am well equipped to help students with Maths and make problem solving easy for them. Therefore, I provide tutoring for entrance exams like the SATs and SAT IIs. I have also tutored students on how to write effective personal statements and apply to universities. My A-level students have gone on to study at Imperial College, UCL, Kings College and Durham. I have also helped mature students apply and get into PGCE courses at university, including help with personal statements and entrance exams.

Tutoring Approach:

My students describe me as patient, motivational, flexible with learning techniques and thorough. I like to work WITH students to help them overcome their difficulties. As such, I make myself available (on call) outside of tutoring hours for any questions the student might have. My teaching style varies according to the needs of the student. Personally, I believe any child can score an A and therefore, I make every effort to help the child work towards their desired goal. I provide monthly progress updates to parents as well (if desired). I like to focus on the fundamental concepts - I do not believe that simply teaching the child how to answer the exam question is the best way. I ensure that the student understands the concept and then answers the question. As such, I use a variety of techniques (visual/conceptual/question answer/MCQ/exam style questions), depending upon the needs of the student. I am open to feedback from the student and consistently ensure that I am best meeting their needs. During exam time, my students may contact me 24/7 and can schedule extra help. I also provide revision materials, questions and note cards (nearing exams).

Please note that my students travel to me at Holborn, UCL, Russell Square and I teach at public places like libraries and cafes only.
