This is how 3 referees rated Dermot:
Director of SRC Bede has written this about me in 'The Gazette' dated 21/7/16 page 9 'Dermot lives for maths and revels in the beauty of the subject. He has been an exemplary professional, committed to the college and unstinting in his support for students'.
Indeed I do have a love for learning and passing on what I know especially when it comes to mathematics! I enjoy puzzles, playing chess and walking. I believe in exercising mind and body!
I have been teaching mathematics, mostly at Sixth Form level, for a period of 25 years so I have considerable expertise in the subject. At A-level I have taught all the core modules, further pure modules and the applied modules (mechanics, statistics and decision mathematics). I have also had much experience teaching GCSE mathematics at foundation and higher level. In addition I have had quite a lot of experience in 1-1 tutoring and coaching which I enjoy.
I am passionate about mathematics and will always communicate it in a way that makes sense especially if you find it difficult. I am patient, supportive and understanding. I will spend time initially finding out which area(s) of the subject you need help in. My aim is that you grow in confidence so that your knowledge and understanding of mathematics increases.
