I am a retired qualified teacher, married living in Dunstable.
After working as a scientist in industry I entered Education teaching physical sciences and mathematics to GCSE level in independent and state schools.
I have had extensive experience as an Examiner/Moderator of KS3 mathematics and GCSE physics examinations.
I taught the physical sciences and mathematics to GCSE level in independent and state schools for 10 years.
As a personal tutor for over 10 years I have taught many pupils of varying ages and abilities.
My experience is with pupils throughout their KS2 in Maths,English and Science;Maths and the Sciences for KS3 and GCSE examinations… I have experience,personal as well as professional,of the difficulties facing gifted and talented pupils.
Experience as an External Moderator of Science(Chemistry/Physics) Practical Coursework.
Experience as a Marker for Science written papers and KS3 Maths papers(when they were set)
I give help with homework and resolving learning problems found from classwork.
My access to a large and varied number of practice papers enables me to give extra work if wanted
Improved understanding, combined with a pupil's self motivation, will usually overcome many problems.
Tutoring is in the pupil's home.I will normally travel UP TO 10 miles,depending on the location and potential traffic.

However, my son found the lesson a little confusing and did not feel he could really learn anything, as the tutors knowledge of the particular Physics modules he is currently doing at GCSE, is not very good. He needed a tutor with a more thorough understanding of the Physics modules. Perhaps someone who is currently teaching/ or has taught this before would have been better.
It is not always easy for a parent to accept that their child lacks self-motivation.
