I am a self-confessed geek; I love reading and learning about new ideas. I am especially interested My particular interested in how the lives of women and children have changed over the last one hundred years. I love teaching as I get to enthuse my learners with my passion for learning.
I have worked with young and vulnerable adults since 2009 and have watched students flourish with the right help and reassurance. I have a range of experience in delivering private tuition from key stage two to degree level. I have six years experience teaching in the History, Maths, English and Study Skills in the State Sector which I greatly enjoy. Previous to my career as a teacher, I worked as a Study Facilitator at the University of Lincoln helping students adapt to the demands of academic life.
My philosophy towards teaching and learning is that everyone should be given the individual encouragement and support they require to reach their full potential. This is based on experiences I have had, both as a student and a tutor, which have led me to believe that the key to learner success is the establishment of excellent tutor-student relationships. A strong relationship provides students with confidence and enables me to differentiate the sessions to meet the individual needs of learners. Students should feel that they are been listened to and that their needs and concerns will be addressed. I understand that each learner is unique and each season is tailored to their needs. I understand that in order to avoid cognitive overload and misconceptions we need to breakdown learning into its smallest components and provide careful scaffolding and practise until students are secure in their basic understand. Once students have increased their confidence in the core elements, I then help them to become able and resilient independent learners. I have high expectations of both myself and learners and all my students have exceeded their target grades.
