Personal Description:

I am a qualified therapist, lecturer and published author plus former CEO of two charities who now spends time writing and teaching. I have published three books which have helped to reshape social policy, introducing the concept of psychologically informed environments in 2011, the idea has began to reshape mental health provision. This is based on a synthesis of my practical and theoretical work. I therefore have a unique experience to offer any prospective student.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching since 1989, when I began tutoring but then having a break as I moved into charity work, later being asked to lecture at Kings College, Birkbeck College and the School of Oriental and African Studies over ten years, where I am still an external examiner. Currently I lecture at South Bank on the Addictions and Forensic Psychology Courses. I have worked extensively with students from a range of disciplines; psychology, sociology, development studies, psychotherapy, politics, social care and health plus early years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is based on a mixture of Carl Rogers, Vygotsky and being directed by the course requirements and syllabus. University education for example is framed by the lecture slides, reading list and the lecture. Therefore it is important that all written work reflects the course outline.

I draw upon both my community education and therapeutic training to build a students confidence, drawing on the zone of proximal development for all the educational psychologists out there, to get the best out of a student and watch them grow and develop. There is nothing better than seeing someone who feels bereft suddenly propelling themselves into the stratosphere.
