I am a current Head of History with 18 years teaching experience across KS3-5, working in Warwickshire. I have a proven track record of securing exceptional outcomes for students at both GCSE and A level, in both Government & Politics and History. I previously taught the International Baccalaureate at KS5 in both History and Politics, and could offer support in this qualification. I remain an examiner for IB and Edexcel A level. I have previously examined for GCSE, mostly with the Edxecel board. I'm married with three children and have a breadth of experience working with and engaging young people.
I am a current Head of History with 18 years teaching experience across KS3-5, working in Warwickshire. I have previously worked in two schools in Solihull and Coventry at Faculty or Departmental leadership level. I have supported young people from a range of ability groups and am consequently well placed to ensure all students reach their potential, be them from the lower, middle or high ability range.
My approach is always be based on the needs of learners, helping them to achieve their goals. I build students' confidence and at the same time ensure a suitable level of challenge that leads to rapid progress. I plan carefully for every session and establish a good balance for students between academic rigor and enjoyment, not that these are mutually exclusive. I use my insight of mark-schemes and the demands of examiners to demonstrate for students how best to reach their potential. Knowledge is increasingly vital in public examinations and so this key information I make readily available then focus on application to examination questions. I also offer model answers to show what exemplary responses should look like. I also value the importance of a positive relationship and so a healthy dose of humour is always evident in the sessions I lead.
