I currently have two roles-as a primary school teacher and as an advisory teacher for languages in primary schools. I have a languages degree from the University of Manchester. I did my PGCE at Liverpool [now Hope] University, where I gained my Certificate of Education and qualified as a primary school teacher. Whilst working full-time, I also studied for a one year, 'Child Development,' qualification with the Open University and was awarded a distinction. I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate . I would be happy to show all my certificates to potential families.
I have been a primary school teacher for 25 years. I currently work in a local school where I specialise in all aspects of KS2 SAT preparation. Recently, I successfully tutored my own two children for their KS2 SATs. In addition, I am able to offer Maths, English and French tuition for all ages across KS1/ KS2. I am also employed by the Local Education Authority in an advisory role for modern foreign languages. Besides my managerial duties, I also deliver fun French lessons to pupils aged 3-11 in schools across Liverpool. The pupils' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills are developed through age-appropriate resources, songs, stories and activities.
Teaching is my passion. My experience means that I am confident in my subject knowledge and I have honed my skills. The beauty of one-to one tuition is that it is possible to establish a relaxed and positive learning environment within which a student feels at ease and able to focus. I use various techniques to make the sessions fun and the content memorable. I also have a wide range of current resources, all linked to the National Curriculum. I understand the importance of tailoring input and content to match each individual student's requirements.
Tutor sessions are one hour long and on a weekly basis for an agreed length of time. I prefer to work from home in order to have access to the wide range of teaching resources I have acquired. The first lesson is discounted to reflect the fact that it mainly involves an assessment of the student's future needs. This will enable me to prepare a sequence of bespoke lessons. After each session I provide an update and suggestions for further practice/ homework.
Please note that 24 hour notice of lesson cancellation is required or the lesson fee will be charged.
