I have a First Class Degree and PhD in philosophy from Manchester University. I am particularly interested in decision-making, the philosophy of health, ethics, interdisciplinary studies, and delusions. I am also interested and experienced in online learning and have a system called The Values Exchange that can be used as part of my tuition programme if desired and helpful.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a teacher for nearly 40 years. I have worked for the Open University, the WEA, Liverpooool University, Wolverhampton University, UCLAN, Auckland University, the University of Western Sydney, and several others. I have taught Philosophy for Children as a volunteer, I have worked widely in schools, I have taught extensively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervised several PhD students to completion.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring style is calm, supportive and encouraging. I favour a Socratic approach where appropriate, which is questioning and conversational, and which works with and respects the knowledge and insights of the tutees. I have helped numerous students who think philosophy is 'scary' and 'not for me' to gain a new and positive habit of thinking that helps them both academically and in life in general.
