Information About David - Horsham tutor
My name is David . I am a 20 year old professional drummer living in Horsham and have been playing the drums for 9 years.
Since I was 13, I have been playing live with bands and other musical projects of all different styles and genres. Some projects write their own music and have toured around the UK, others play popular songs for weddings, parties and all kinds of other events!
I recently finished my 2 year Professional Diploma course at BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) where I was taught by professional musicians working with top artists, including Vinnie Lammi (The Spice Girls), Michael Bowes (Nelly Furtado and Joss Stone) and Andy Maclure (Sleeper).
As well as the drums, I also play guitar and completed my A Level Music course on this instrument. I have a good knowledge of music theory which is invaluable as a musician of any instrument. I have been able to read sheet music since I started learning drumming and again find this an invaluable tool for drummers.
I have been teaching drums privately for 4 years now and, since recently moving to Horsham, am looking for new students to teach, whether beginner or intermediate. I teach in a music studio in my home that is relaxed and comfortable, however am hoping to have a professional studio built in 2013. As for age and abilities, I have taught children who have never touched a drum stick in their life, as well as teenagers who have had a few years of experience and have perhaps just started a band.
The lessons I give cover a variety of areas, including:
Styles: exploring various genres of music, eg. rock, pop, reggae, jazz etc.
Technique: using various technical exercises to build independence
Rhythm Section: studying how drummers play in a professional environment and working on 'real life' techniques, eg. playing to a metronome, learning songs quickly etc.
I always try and keep lessons fun and exciting with new things to look forward to. Having a teacher point to exercises in a book is not a fun way to learn and soon the hobby becomes a chore. Instead, I like to teach in a relaxed, comfortable environment where we have a good understanding of eachother. I teach songs, fun and unique styles that you may not have known you'd be interested in and also talk of real life experience that you can apply what you've learnt to.
